thanks! If you guys haven't figured it out....I'm not the blond (that is Laura). I'm the old gray haired woman sort of sticking my guitar in Chris's nose (not good)

It's fun!
Karen brought us cookies during the course too! You should see the snowflake inlays she did on her fretboard!

I'll be conducting interviews for the upcoming 2007 OLF Calender Girls Poster, a fund raiser of course. I think Laura could be Miss December......just kidding!

Karen, looks like you guys had a great time and built some really great guitars. I am an old gray haired man myself and just might make my way to Denver to visit Robbie's place and see you all real soon.

Thanks

Mike
She brought us donuts and milk throughout the semester as well. Needless to say I gave her an A in the class just for that!
Now why didn't I think of that when I was in school?

Looks like a fun time Robbie. And some really fine looking instruments coming out of the class.

Wow this is a great setting for learning guitar. A local college Art Teacher and his love for guitar allowed a community course to occur at night for a number of years running. He moved on to complete his Phd, and it ran a couple semesters under a student/teacher. One of the former students was the teacher in other words. But it was great fun and worth the effort. I might add, your completion of instruments appears to be much higher, which is a "hat's off compliment" to your instructor. Way to go O'Brien.

Also.... cool inlay!Bruce Dickey38843.9603009259

Hey! I'll sign up if you can just have a class of hot blondes and me. I'll probably have to retake the class a second time cause I probably won't get anything done the first time. To much distraction if you know what I mean.

Robbie -- those are great pics and guitars. Like Brock said ... a lot of nice first efforts. Hats off to you and your students. It looks like the school has great facilities ...good light, space and tools.

Karen since we see you posting here from time to time how about posting some pictures of what appears to be an OM or OOO?

Well, I had a 'Whoops' yesterday, when the lid of Robbie's fish glue bottle came off and I dumped 1/2 of the bottle inside my guitar (this happened while trying to glue the fret board on). So the pictures will come after I get things in order.

That was a freak accident huh Karen? We were able to clean it out and now it has a nice finished look on the inside of the guitar. That is one way to size (seal) the wood but I don't think I would recommend it.

certainly not by design...but with a little help from my friends, we did get it cleaned up. The guitar just smells like FISH now.

Thanks Bruce! That one's mine. I've been gone for a week on vacation, so I missed the last week of Robbie's class. I'll post some better pics of the inlay when I get a chance.
Hi Robbie. I hate to do this but being the guitar
building class police, I must insist you hand over all known information
on the female in the first pic.
A true luthier would home in immediately on the guitar.... not the
beautiful woman holding same.

Interesting problem youve got there.....if it was me I'd be busy looking for
cat that would fit through a soundhole.

Robbie! I can't even express to you how much fun I had this past semester. It was really great. The more I play with my guitar and listen to it the more I appreciate and love it. And you know, I'm not even getting that ratteling from the low e anymore. funny that. Well, I'm chomping at the bit to get back in there this fall. It's good to have a brake though. I was getting pretty overwhelmed right near the end. But i"m sure gonna miss everyone!

Welcome, Laura! Hey, join the fun here, and you won't go through lutherie withdrawal. You may have noticed that folks have been bugging Karen for photos of her guitar, so I'll extend that invitation to you, too. Trust me, you're dealing with builders of all levels here, and all those huge "flaws" that you probably see in your guitar won't be picked on (or even noticed) here, 'cause we've seen (and made) them all before!

Hey Laura! Welcome to the OLF. I am glad you finally found us here. You will learn a lot here and will be an expert by the time our next class rolls around. Go ahead and post some pics of your guitar and ask Aaron to do the same.

Hi Laura! You seem to be pretty popular around here already.

I'm sorry I didn't get to see your guitar all strung up. See you in the fall though!

Mike

And let's all be gentlemen. I've always felt this craft was a perfect fit for
women because it requires a sensitivity to design, fine motor control, and
an appreciation for subtle beauty. It doesn't require bulging muscles or
bull dog force. Everyone perked up when Lacey started posting her work
here. Let's keep it an inviting venue and encourage women to stay tuned
in here. Having been married for 38 years, I still find it amazing when my
wife nails me with a perspective I never would have thought of on my
own. Based on the responses here, I think you all want to see and hear
what they have to say.

Plus... girls can probably get their hand down in the guitars..... that has to be a real benefit.
